 2003-2004 Religious Achievements

We added a new dimension to our Religious Activities/Spiritual Growth this year by starting an annual, or bi-annual, tour of a significant church in the Saint Louis area.

  1.  Scouts and parents from Den 1 attended a Reconciliation Retreat in November 2003.
  2. Scouts and parents from Den 8 attended a Eucharistic retreat in April 2003.
  3. In November 2003, Den 1 was given a church tour by Eucharistic minister, Julia Kohlberg.
  4. Pack 371 attended Scout Sunday Mass at St. Clare Parish and St. Louis Cathedral on February 2, 2003.  At St. Clare, the scouts assisted with Mass by being servers, lectors and gift bearers. (see attachment)
  5. On March 14, 2003, the scouts and their families were readers for all Stations of the Cross at St. Clare Parish.  In addition, all of the servers were cub scouts.  A notice was included in the Pack 371 newsletter to invite Catholic scouts from non-Catholic packs to participate. (see attachment)
  6. Scouts and parents were invited to attend the Cub Day of Recollection at Beaumont.
  7. On November 23, 2003, Pack 371 and their families attended the 10:00 am Mass at St. Pius V Church on South Grand Boulevard with Father Lydon.  St. Pius V is the sister church of St. Clare of Assisi.  Following Mass, Deacon Christ provided a tour of their beautiful, historic church and the scouts and families were invited to attend the donut gathering with the St. Pius parishioners.  Personal care items were collected for 2 months at Den meetings and Pack meeting to donate to the needy families of the St. Pius V parish community.  The pack enjoyed the experience of learning about a different church and parish, and plans to tour other Saint Louis churches once or twice a year.
  8. The pack helped in the celebration of Mass for St. Clare’s Feast Day on August 10, 2003.  The scouts distributed song/response sheets, passed the collection baskets, carried the gifts to the altar, collected the sheets after Mass and organized games at the picnic.
  9. On December 11, 2003 the scouts and their parents from Dens 4 and 5 that are working on their Parvuli Dei booklets attended a “Banner Day” workshop held in St. Clare cafeteria by the Religious Coordinator of Pack 371.  Craft supplies, space and assistance was provided to the scouts to assist them in completing their banners that are required in Step 5 of their Parvuli Dei booklets.  The scouts will display their banners at the ends of the pews during Scout Sunday in February 2004.
  10. Mary and Gene Mueller attended the adult retreat for scout leaders September 27-28, 2003.  Denise Maussardt attended Retreat in March of 2003.
  11. All Pack Meetings are opened and closed with prayer.
  12. Scouts regularly participate in the children’s Masses as lectors, gift bearers, and singers through St. Clare of Assisi School.
