Pack 371 February Newsletter

2/27/04

February 28th – Blue and Gold, 3:30 – 6:30 @ St. Clare Cafeteria

Get ready to FIESTA!!!!  Since our banquet will more than likely run over into the 5:00 mass, we are asking everyone to park in the spaces behind the gym and school.  This should provide us with plenty of spaces.  You will be able to enter in the atrium door back by the dumpsters.  We appreciate your consideration with the parking situation.    Also, bring change for our gathering activity.  We will have a penny (change) pitch set up for the kids.  All proceeds will be donated to the trust fund for Officer Sloan’s family.

March 9th – Pack Committee Meeting, 7:00 @ St. Clare Cafeteria

Religious Awards

Congratulations to Pack 371!!!! On February 8th our Pack was awarded the “Chaplain’s Outstanding Cub Pack Award”.  This is the gold medal of awards for Catholic Packs in the St. Louis Archdiocese.   In addition Mary Mueller and Denise Mausshardt  received individual awards for their contributions to spiritual development of youths in our parish.  Thanks everyone for your outstanding service to our community, and thanks to Carol Schwartz for her organization and documentation of our service efforts.

Garage Sale – Contact the Goeverts (256-3486) about dropping off your things NOW.

Don’t forget our spring garage sale!!!!  Many of you have told Shelly that you have stuff for her, now is the time to start dropping it off.  She is planning on organizing it soon, probably over spring break as her boys will all be at spring training, and is looking to have the sale at the end of March.  As you start cleaning stuff out, putting away winter clothes, and digging out warm weather clothes, remember us.

Summer Camps Update

There are a variety of overnight camps held out at Beaumont.  The structure of the overnights, varies with the rank of your scout and are as follows:

Dads and Lads:  July 10,11 from about noon on Saturday to noon on Sunday.  This camp is for Wolfs and Tigers if spots are available.  Boys stay over one night with their dads.  We have six boys signed up and there are no refunds on your deposit if you cancel.  This opportunity is now open to any interested Tigers and their dads.  Call Jeff Meyer (530-9553) if you are interested,

Webelos mini-camp:  July 7-9.  Open to boys who will be Webelo I in the fall of 2004.  This camp includes a two nights stay and requires one adult leader at all times.  A second may attend if they like.  Currently five boys are signed up.  The $50 balance is due by 4/15/04 or you may have your deposit refunded if you cancel by 4/15/04.  There are three spots available if you are still interested.

Webelos week-long camp:  6/27 – July 2.  Open to boys who will be Webelo II in the fall 2004.  Two adult leaders are required to be present at all times.  With room for an additional two if they are interested.  Currently 13 boys are signed up.  The $115 balance is due by 4/15/04 or you may have your deposit refunded if you cancel by 4/15/04.  There is one spot still open.

Also, there is a week long day camp usually held at the beginning of June.  This camp is typically held out at Babler Park and is open to scouts at all levels.  Boys attend camp from 9-3 for five days and work on a variety of activities which count toward earning their badges, arrow points and beltloops/pins in the fall.  This is a great way to take some of the “rush” out of your fall scout schedule since a ton of requirements are knocked out.  Each parent must volunteer to work one day out at the camp.   Details on dates and fees will be provided as they are available.

WANTED:  We are looking for someone to fill the position of Advancement Coordinator.  Most of the work is done on Excel spreadsheets which are already created, so it would be helpful if you are comfortable with Excel.  Job duties entail collecting award reports from the den leaders by a monthly deadline you set, recording the awards, purchasing the awards and preparing them for the monthly pack meetings.  There are a couple of committee members who work close to the Scout Shop so you won’t have to be trekking out to the Scout Shop all to often.  If you are interested but would like to find out more before committing yourself, call Vicki McCarthy at 391-7121.

Finally, the Pack Committee meets the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 in the school cafeteria.  These meetings are open to all parents who have an idea for a Pack Meeting or have a concern they would like to discuss.  The meetings generally run an hour long, however, if you are able to contact Paul Goevert or Mike Jablonski beforehand we can move you to the top of the agenda.
